COMMUNICANTS CLASS  Please join us for two special Saturdays on June 8^th and June 15^th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, as we host a Communicants Class led by the Rev. Dr. Roland De Vries, who serves as the Principal at the Presbyterian College in Montreal and is also our Interim Moderator as we continue our search for a new minister.  This class offers a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in becoming a member of our church and delving deeper into the teachings of the Reformed faith.  All are welcome to attend, even if you are already a member!  If you’re interested in joining the class, please reach out to one of our elders: Peter, Fouad, Clifford, or Jonathan.  We look forward to journeying together in faith and fellowship.

OUR GOSPEL LESSON isLuke 24: 44-53.  Within this passage, Jesus reveals to his disciples the fulfillment of Scripture in his life, death, and resurrection, emphasizing the necessity of these events for salvation.  The 17th-century English theologian, John Owen, sheds light on this passage, “This is what the resurrection is to us.  It is God’s declaration that the account of our moral indebtedness has been paid, that God is satisfied.  This just God will never demand anything else for our salvation.  If Christ’s atoning work is really a finished work and if God has accepted it as the sole grounds of salvation, let us proclaim it as such.  If we have entered into it, having come to God on the basis of Christ’s sacrifice, then we have an obligation to make this gospel widely known.  They need to hear that all that is necessary for our salvation has been done by Christ.”

OUR GOSPEL READING is John 15: 1-8, “I Am the True Vine”.  In this passage Jesus compares himself to a vine and his followers to branches, emphasizing that staying connected to him is vital for bearing spiritual fruit and life.  Without this connection, believers cannot thrive.  But by remaining in him, they can produce abundant fruit, illustrating their close relationship with Jesus.  In the Old Testament, Israel was often referred to as God’s “vine” or “vineyard,” but faced judgment for failing to bear fruit.  Jesus, however, is portrayed as the ultimate and genuine “vine”, fulfilling the role that Israel could not.

OUR GOSPEL READING is John 10: 11-18, “I Am the Good Shepherd”.  Many churches observe the fourth Sunday of Easter as Good Shepherd Sunday.  In this Sunday’s gospel lesson, we reflect on the words of our Lord as He refers to Himself as “the Good Shepherd.”  This designation signifies Jesus’ care, protection, and guidance for all believers.  It underscores his sacrificial death for our redemption and emphasizes a personal relationship with him, ensuring our eternal security.

OUR GOSPEL READING is Luke 24: 36-48, “Jesus Appears to His Disciples”.  As we enter the third week of Easter, we reflect on the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  In this Sunday’s gospel reading from Luke, we encounter Jesus appearing to his disciples after rising from the dead.  He reassures them of his bodily presence, explaining how his suffering, death, and resurrection fulfill the Scriptures, and commissions the disciples to share his message of repentance and forgiveness to people from every nation.

HE IS RISEN INDEED!  What a wonderful worship service we had last week, celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour.  We extend our gratitude to our director of music, Henry Cobb Howes, special trumpeter Daniel Howells, and our choir for their outstanding musical performances during the Easter service.  As we journey through this week, may we always keep our eyes fixed on the risen and living Christ.

OUR GOSPEL READING is John 20: 19-31, “Jesus Appears to the Disciples”.  The passage recounts Jesus appearing to his disciples after his resurrection.  Initially, Thomas, one of the disciples, doubts that Jesus has truly risen until he sees him and touches his wounds.  This event emphasizes the importance of faith and serves as a testament to Jesus’ bodily resurrection.  One commentator notes, “Jesus responded to Thomas with a blessing on those who would believe in his resurrection without seeing Jesus’ physical, resurrected body (verse 29).  This was probably not a rebuke of Thomas for needing evidence to believe.  More likely, Jesus was signaling that those who believe in him without seeing his physical, resurrected body are just as blessed as Thomas and the other disciples who did see it.  We who believe in Jesus based on the apostolic testimony are not lesser disciples than those who saw him in the flesh.”
