March 22nd 2026

Dear friends,

THIS SUNDAY, Deaconess Beth Chittim will be leading us in worship.  Beth, a retired social worker, has been part of St. Andrew’s congregation for over 20 years.  She was consecrated as a Deaconess by the Lutheran Diaconal Association (LDA) in 1987.  In addition to her two years of study and internship in theology and diaconal studies at the University of Valparaiso, Valparaiso, Indiana, Beth also completed a Diploma in Christian Studies from Regent College in Vancouver, BC, as well as master level courses in Theology at l’Université de Montréal.

IN OUR SCRIPTURE PASSAGE FOR SUNDAY, we read about Jesus’ encounters with the sisters Martha and Mary after the death of their brother Lazarus.  Both sisters express their belief that their brother would not have died had only Jesus been present.  And then they and all their friends witnessed the glory of God: Jesus thanked his heavenly Father for listening to him always and then called to Lazarus to come out of the tomb.  And Lazarus rose from the dead.  We will explore what Jesus’ interactions with these three siblings tell us about them, about Jesus and about our own faith journey.
