December 3rd 2023 -“Too much or too little”

2023-12-03 “Too much or too little?” 11 AM

Dear friends,

THIS SUNDAY the Rev. Dr. Karen Petersen Finch will be leading us in worship and Communion.

OUR RESPONSIVE READING is taken from Psalm 63, “A psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.”  King David may have been running from his rebellious son Absalom when he wrote this psalm in the hot Judean desert.  It is interesting to note that despite being physically exhausted, dehydrated and in serious danger, David also articulates a spiritual yearning for God with the words, “my soul thirsts for you.”  There are times and seasons in our lives when we feel spiritually cold, lethargic, sorrowful, lonely, disoriented or exhausted, but David here reminds us to look up and to take our prayers to God, the one who is our rock, our fortress, and our deliverer (Psalm 18: 2).  He continues, “My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me” (verse 8).  One commentator writes, “Though far removed from the sanctuary, the place where he has experienced God’s presence, the psalmist still enjoys intimate communion with Him.  Clinging to the Lord means finding in Him one’s only hope.”
